Portland Burrito Brigade

Portland Burrito Brigade has been meeting on the second Sunday of every month since 2016. We currently make around 250 burritos each month and focus on distributing them throughout East Portland. However, there is an enormous need in our community and we want people to be able to help their own neighborhoods! We encourage volunteers to take burritos back to their neighborhoods or local camps and free fridges.

We meet in the basement of:

Rose City Park United Methodist Church
5830 NE Alameda St.
Portland, OR 97213

Enter the basement directly from 58th Ave. Go down the stairs or ramp and through the entryway. We are located in the kitchen at the back of the room.

Sometimes we share this space; if another group is in the main area, try to remain quiet until you get to the kitchen!

Volunteer Opportunities

We need the most volunteers to support our regular service, and you can join a Sunday brigade on a drop-in basis. If you don’t have any experience chopping, cooking, rolling, or distributing burritos, we’ll train you. We especially need help with distribution!

Schedule (note: times are approximate, and may vary based on how many volunteers we have)

Chopping: 10:30 – 12:00 pm
Cleaning: 12 – 12:30 pm
Rolling: 12:30 – 2:00 pm
Cleaning: 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Distribution: 2:00 – 3:00 pm

Accessibility: The basement can be accessed via a ramp from 58th Avenue. Chopping and rolling tasks can be done while seated. Distribution is done throughout the city, but we have routes that include walking distribution or burrito drops at fridges or camps.

Our events are child friendly, as long as the child’s parent/guardian/caregiver is also there. We have had children of all ages, but if your child is too young to chop vegetables or roll a burrito they may not have enough tasks to occupy them for the whole day.

We can also use help in a variety of other ways, including collecting food donations, sending emails, managing social, and more. Email us at portland@burritobrigade.org if you want to get involved in other ways, or have ideas that we haven’t mentioned here.

We accept cash donations to buy tortillas, beans, rice, veggies and other burrito supplies, and to pay our building rent. Currently, each burrito costs about $.84 cents to produce.

You can donate online using a debit or credit card! We accept Zeffy, Square, and PayPal! Please include Portland Burrito Brigade in the notes.

You can mail a personal check to the following address. Please mention Portland Burrito Brigade in the notes.
